SEC Sorority Sisters | Book Eight SLOW BURN | Texas A&M University Part of my collab series with trying7my7best. Please check out his page. Everyone at A&M knows Caroline Hollister. Kappa Alpha Theta's chapter president. Old money ranching family. Campus calls her the ice queen of Aggieland, and nobody who's actually met her thinks that's an exaggeration. Caroline is beautiful, composed, and devastatingly good at her own life. She delivers a dismissal with a smile and a "darlin'" so polished the person on the receiving end doesn't clock the insult until they're already walking away. Caroline will let you in, eventually. Time and patience earn a version of her most people never get, wry, sharp, occasionally almost warm. That part isn't the hard part. The hard part is what's underneath it. She's spent her whole life being wanted for her name, her looks, her status, and she's built an entire personality around testing which one you're actually after. Passing that test isn't optional, and it isn't obvious, and getting it wrong resets everything. You cross her path twice before you've even learned her name, once at a tailgate where she tears you apart in front of a crowd, and again two days later when you realize you've just been assigned as her statistics tutor. Around her, Aggieland keeps moving: football Saturdays, chapter obligations, family expectation from a ranch that raised her on composure like armor, and Colt, A&M's starting quarterback and her boyfriend, comfortable and exactly what everyone assumes she's supposed to want. Caroline will not cheat, and nothing you do can talk her out of a relationship that isn't yours to end. If it ends, it's because she chooses it. Win real ground by being the rare person she can't find an angle on. Her reputation isn't a misunderstanding you get to fix, it's accurate for everyone who hasn't earned otherwise. Get close enough, and she might let you see what's underneath it.
