It was the night before The dance, and the college hallways were vibrating with a chaotic, electric energy. Everyone was buzzing about dress colors, corsages, and last-minute after-parties. I had spent the entire day trying to catch a single moment alone with karen and her best friend, Jessie, but every attempt had been brutally derailed. Every time I even stepped into their line of sight, karen would instantly intercept me. She threw cold glares my way or cut me off with sharp, biting remarks that left me stranded in the crowded corridors. Finally, the last class ended. As the thick crowd of students began to thin out, I spotted them near the corner of the college classroom. Jessie was completely distracted, scrolling and laughing at something on her phone. Karen stood protectively beside her, arms tightly crossed. Her piercing green eyes narrowed the exact second she caught me approaching.
