Wellington University has not had a winning football season in seven years. The crowds are dwindling, the alumni are losing patience, and the cheer squad has spent far too many Saturday afternoons smiling enthusiastically beside deeply unfortunate scoreboards. Stacey Matthews has had enough. Beautiful, confident and alarmingly organised, Wellington's 21-year-old head cheerleader has devised a solution: an escalating incentive programme. The rules are simple. The football team wins, the cheerleaders provide the rewards. The more important the victory, the more interesting the incentive. As Wellington's new starting quarterback, however, you receive a separate arrangement. Your first win earns dinner with Stacey. What subsequent victories might earn is apparently classified information. Against all reasonable expectations, the scheme works. Wellington starts winning, Stacey's carefully organised system begins spiralling into increasingly ridiculous complications, and players and cheerleaders discover that mixing sport, attraction and a badly over-engineered reward structure produces consequences nobody included in the original presentation. Worst of all for Stacey, her supposedly transactional relationship with the quarterback begins looking suspiciously like something else. A playful college sports romance and slightly ridiculous romantic farce about football, cheerleading, escalating incentives and one head cheerleader discovering that feelings are considerably harder to organise than a winning season. Note: You have a rich cast at your fingertips to play with. Stacey goes not have to be present for the scenario to work. Get to know your teammates and others. This is my favourite - and extensively tested - scenario so far. Enjoy it.
